Wow, Viagra from the Lord!

Got this in my SPAM box this morning and was amused to see that the random "spam fooling" text that they had used appeared to be the bible....

Too many to choose...

We are going across to London for a wedding this weekend, and, in my now traditional manner, I went to Flickr Maps (http://www.flickr.com/map/) to see if there were any interesting places near our hotel that would warrant a quick look-see...

We are staying near Bayswater and even at the second most "zoomed" in setting, there were nearly 2,500 photo's to look at.

I took a quick look at some of them but was quickly put off wading through the rest by the sheer banality of the majority of them. Now, it's not a criticism of the photo or photographer, I have many such photos in my photostream, but an indication of the flood of digital information that is just going to get bigger and will need to be sorted and winnowed out to be of any use to anyone.

Luckily, Flickr has the option to filter by Group, Person or date.

As I am a member of the London Group - not sure how you would do this otherwise - join the group I suppose...

I used that and reduced the volume to 76...

A quick look at some of these and I am much happier... there certainly seems to be city and park ones very close by which should keep me busy!

A Brand New Day

(and strangely both photos above were taken by Spaniards....)

Obviously there'll be a wedding too!

Woo Hoo I'm Back

OK, I know It's been a long time....
But after multiple new year resolutions, and much angst...
I've decide to get back into the blog thing.

Since the last entry we've moved to Ireland - and there are many tales to tell...

Will leave those for later.

Buenos Aires revisited

Well it slowly drifts to a conclusion.

We´re back in Buenos Aires, but this time, rather than the 4* in the center we´re in a small hotel in San Telmo - home of the Tango.

We arrived yesterday from Iguazu. Flying was a bit of an culture shock but a really refreshing change from buses.

From sitting by the pool in Iguazu to walking around the market in San Telmo took about 4 1/2 hours. The Plane even took a once around the falls loop which was pretty stunning.

The San Telmo area is a really vibrant and busy area. Sort of a spitalfields market spread over three of four blocks sprinkled with atmospheric bars and spiced with tango music and dancers.

Aideen is now better, although with the sheer drug volumes they use in this country, she´s gone to the opposite extreme! I think she´ll be very happy to get back to the world of All Bran and Muesli.

Tonight I plan on having the biggest ever steak (although more than 800g - my current largest - may have health implications!)...

And then tomorrow we fly.

See you all soon.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle...

OK...
after 1700 kilometers in a bus we´re now right over on the east (right) of the country now. From 2100m to 210m and v.dry to v.humid. but still hot.

Only managed a cama bus (i.e beds at 30 degrees not the super cama flat ones)
but trip went as well as any 30 hour bus journey ever could.
Chronicles of Riddick as one of the films cheered me up but DVDs weren´t really made for some of these roads and seeing the end in a series of jumpcuts compressing it from what must have been 15 - 20 minutes into at the most 5 minutes may not have been how the director originally meant it (it was the closest "with a bound he was free" cinematic moment I´ve ever seen!)

Aideen also did beat me on backammon. bugger.

Anyway, we´re into the final stretch. In the jungle - off to see the Waterfalls tomorrow - so it´s humid and lots of insects and birds (humming birds etc.)
...

Aideen´s recovering from a wee tummy bug. All that vegetarian food I expect! but she´s on the mend now - back on the solids anyway!

update you later....

Up Norf

Hello again,
Getting close to the end ;-(
We´re up in Tilcara which is just north of Jujuy (pronounced something like "who-hoy" but I´m not 100% sure) which is right up in the north west of the country.
We´re now definitely in the land of the cactus and multicoloured rocks. It´s hot and high (>2000m) and even after nearly 7 weeks in the fresh air we both got burnt yesterday.

Yesterday we went to a salt pan (Salinas Grande) which was really stunning. White and glistening till the horizon. 25 km wide and 75 long. We were in a landrover so drove out into the middle for lunch and wouldn´t you know it a German tourist bus came along and decided to set up camp about 30 meters away....
After lunch we had a wee cycle on the salt pan before driving back to the top of the pass (4100 meters) where we got off and cycled the 35 km (and about 1750 meters vertical drop) to Purmamarca. It really is the way to go. I hardly pedalled at all and the guy in the landrover was driving behind aideen and said she was going about 60 kph while me with my 16 stone momentum power was probably going 70 !!! truly amazing (getting a bit overused that word but it´s all true)

Anyway, as to other things... dietwise I have expanded my range to include rabbit and Llama which have both been amazing but unfortunately Aideen hasn´t had more than the sauce (carmel and Black lager... yum). Steaks in general seem a bit smaller up here but are still holding up in terms of quality... Empanada are getting much better as they´re starting to use pepper and chilli!

Back to our travels and not my tummy
Prior to getting up here we´ve been through Cafayate and went to some vineyards where we learnt how to descibe the wines we´ve been drinking on a nightly basis in a proper Jilly Goolden way - "Tea and Chocolate"... and also did some mad cyclying - definitely NOT downhill. 100km through the midday sun, getting a puncture, not having enough water... but the scenery was beautiful - multicolored rocks eroded into all sorts of bizarre shapes.

We´ve also treated ourselves to two lovely hotel-hostels (at Quilmes and Cachi) with swiming pools and as it´s teh end of the season, they´ve been pretty empty.
And we´ve been taking some awesome bus journeys that have succeeded in keeping even the narcoleptic aideen awake.

The music here (and I don´t understand the words) gives the impression of being similar to the mournful Irish ballads and even the small Pena houses seem to have great singers.

Still meeting interesting people (Most recent were some lovely Americans. However none of the american´s travelling are Bush supporters....)

As to the rest of the world, which we see now again, the death of the pope has certainly been taken seriously here with masses that spill out onto the street and tv which has wall to wall coverage. As it´s much older up here there are also a lot more churchs and cathedrals and many of which are over 300 years old and often full of women reciting decats (?) of something or another... sure Aideen knew what they were!

Anyway off to Iguazu on wednesday another huge bus journey so aideen may eventually beat me at backgammon!
hopefully find a FAST internet connection and chuck up some more photos, in the mean time take care and see you later!

Corboba stopover

Well here we are in a big city once again.
And as we´ve move a couple of miles (well a 20 hour bus journey - about 1000kms) it´s all another notch cheaper.
Woo hoo!
Last nights wine, beer, snacks and supper for 2 all came to less that 8 pounds. Amazing!
Bus journey was suprizingly easy considering. However learnt that there is a "Super Cama" option which is horizontal beds, champagne and chocolates... so may have to splurge later.
Off to the mountains now. Another 14 hour bus journey.
City life to hectic. (But at least Aideen managed to get her Church visited / day average up as there are loads here and they are all amazing). The Jesuits were the 17th century nutters as far as I can tell.
Salta and Jujuey Call. High Altitude mmmmm. But was told that all I need is to chew Coca Leaves.... Doyler this may be your country after all.
Take care and catch ya later
Eoin
